The Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a counterattack and advanced on several fronts at once — ISW

The Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out localized counterattacks and advanced in several sectors of the front. According to the Institute for the Study of War, Ukrainian forces halted the Russian offensive in the Kozacha Lopana area and also made gains near Kostyantynivka and in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Ukrainian defense forces carried out a series of localized counterattacks along the front and were able to push back Russian troops in certain areas. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) dated August 22. On the Kharkiv front, Ukrainian forces launched a counterattack in the area of Kozacha Lopana. According to analysts, this helped halt the advance of Russian troops in that sector.

Fighting also continued near Borova. There, Russian and Ukrainian forces carried out counterattacks. At the same time, according to the ISW, neither side was able to advance.

Analysts noted more significant changes in the Kostyantynivka area. Ukrainian forces advanced in the central part of the city.

The ISW also drew attention to statements by the Russian side regarding alleged significant successes in this area. According to analysts, Russia continues to exaggerate its own advances by spreading such information.

Another advance by Ukrainian forces was recorded northeast of Oleksandrivka. Russian troops, in turn, attempted to advance in the Huliaipole area; however, according to analysts, they were unsuccessful there.

There have also been developments on the Zaporizhzhia front. Ukrainian forces advanced west of Orikhiv, specifically northeast of Stepove.

Thus, according to the ISW’s assessment, Ukrainian forces achieved localized successes across several sections of the front. At the same time, the situation remains dynamic, and in certain areas, Russian troops continue to attack and attempt to find weaknesses in the Ukrainian defense. This information comes from a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Ukrainian forces struck a Russian Iskander missile launcher located near the Ukrainian border. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the successful operation and stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are carrying out a separate program to locate and destroy Russian systems used to launch ballistic missiles.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces confirmed the destruction of a Russian Su-24M aircraft at the “Saki” airfield in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The strike against Russian military equipment took place on August 20, and other enemy military equipment was also destroyed.

In Orenburg, drones attacked the logistics complex of the OZON marketplace. After debris fell onto the warehouse grounds, a fire broke out, and the company evacuated more than 300 employees and temporarily suspended the acceptance of deliveries.

Starting on the evening of August 22, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with 127 strike drones. Air defense forces neutralized 97 of them, but 27 drones were confirmed to have struck 22 locations.

Over the past day, the Russian army lost another 1,310 soldiers in the war against Ukraine. Ukrainian forces also destroyed one Russian aircraft, 26 armored combat vehicles, 69 artillery systems, and nearly 2,000 drones.

Over the past day, on August 22, there were 254 combat engagements between Ukrainian and Russian forces on the front lines. The highest number of attacks was recorded in the Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk sectors.
