American Airlines unveils first Boeing 777-300ER with Flagship Suites
American Airlines has unveiled its first Boeing 777-300ER refitted with the Flagship Suites cabin. Buenos Aires became the first destination served by such an aircraft: a flight from New York's JFK Airport arrived there on September 2, 2026, AeroTime reports.
More premium-class seats
As part of the modernization, the airline has completely eliminated first class on the Boeing 777-300ER. Eight first-class seats and 52 previous-generation business-class seats were replaced with 70 new Flagship Suites.
The number of seats in the Premium Economy cabin also increased from 28 to 44. According to the publication, the new business suites are equipped with free high-speed internet and a modern in-flight entertainment system.

Fleet retrofit
American Airlines plans to refit 20 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Aircraft of this type typically operate long-haul flights from the United States to Tokyo, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Sydney, so Flagship Suites will be available on these routes, among others.
Previously, Flagship Suites were available only on a limited number of Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft. Bookings for seats in the former first class will end on November 19, 2026. First class on transcontinental flights within the United States was also discontinued on March 28, 2026, due to the expansion of the A321XLR fleet.
