An Australian company will develop protection against FPV drones for Ukrainian special forces

The Australian company Andvare VI Defence Industries, in collaboration with Polaris Government and Defense, is developing a specialized armor kit for the light off-road vehicles used by Ukrainian special forces.

This was reported by Breaking Defense.

The vehicles in question are the MRZR D2 and MRZR D4, which the Ukrainian military actively uses in combat zones.

According to Breaking Defense, prototypes of the new armor are already being prepared for combat testing in Ukraine.

The developers have focused primarily on protection against FPV drones that attack vehicles from above. The new kit provides up to two square meters of roof protection for the vehicle.

Company Director Justin Willis explained that the protective plates have a special “ballistic core” that helps disperse the blast wave. According to him, the new protection is half as thick as similar competing solutions, which prevents the vehicle from becoming overloaded.

In addition to roof protection, the kit includes an armored “ceramic shroud” for the rear of the SUV. It is designed to protect the crew from:

  • loitering munitions;
  • FPV drones;
  • other weapons at speeds up to 200 km/h.

As noted in the article, the Australian company received the request to develop this kit through NATO partners in Bulgaria.

The developers emphasize that the system’s main advantage is the combination of lightweight construction and a high level of protection, which is particularly important for mobile units of the Ukrainian special forces.

As a reminder, the U.S. Navy Special Operations Command is preparing to launch a new 10-day training program for Navy SEALs focused on the combat use of FPV drones.

In Lithuania, military medics underwent training for the first time with the participation of the Ukrainian organization TacMed Ukraine.
