Austria will not participate in the “Miss Universe 2026” pageant due to the death of its representative, 22-year-old Lucija Sisić. The young woman, who was crowned “Miss Austria” in 2024, died after a long battle with serious health issues.
Pageant officials announced her death with deep sorrow and described her as a wonderful young woman who will forever remain in people’s memories.
The organizers also expressed their sincere condolences to Lucia Sisić’s family and loved ones.
The official cause of death has not yet been announced. However, it is known that she had serious heart problems throughout her life and underwent seven complex surgeries.
Lucia Sisić was born with a heart valve defect. In 2017, after yet another surgery, her condition deteriorated sharply, and doctors had to perform resuscitation.
As a result, the nerves in her left leg and foot were severely damaged. Because of this, she had to relearn how to walk.
Despite these difficult trials, Sisić was able to return to a full life and continued her public activities.
Lucia Sisić did not hide her health issues from the public. After winning the title of “Miss Austria” in 2024, she actively shared her personal experience, seeking to support others who also live with heart conditions.
She used her public profile to draw attention to the challenges faced by people with heart conditions and to share her own story of recovery.
Sisic underwent her most recent surgery in late 2025. Afterward, she hoped she would be able to live without further medical procedures for at least the next few years.
“Miss Austria 2024” also repeatedly thanked the doctors who supported her during the most difficult periods and did everything possible to improve her condition.
