Belgium could become a key NATO logistics hub in the event of war, according to an expert
If Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty is invoked, Belgium could play a key role in the deployment of NATO allied troops and equipment. At the same time, the country needs to modernize its infrastructure to carry out such a task.
This was stated by Belgian defense expert Roger Huzen.
According to him, significant work has already been done in this area over the past few years, but full readiness is still a long way off.
“Belgium could become a transit hub for NATO forces, but there is still a lot of work ahead,” the expert noted.
Housen believes that it will take at least two years to prepare the infrastructure. This involves modernizing ports, railways, and bridges, as well as purchasing additional mobile medical centers.
At the same time, the expert emphasized that awareness of potential threats has significantly increased among the Belgian public and the military, and defense issues have already become an important part of the country’s political agenda.
