In Washington, D.C., near the Capitol and the U.S. Supreme Court, law enforcement officers detained a man who had brought a guillotine to the scene in a pickup truck. The incident occurred near government buildings in the center of the capital. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the reasons and the purpose behind the man bringing the device to the Capitol.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Capitol Police reported the arrest of a 35-year-old man from California who had transported a life-size guillotine in the bed of his pickup truck and parked in a block near the Supreme Court and the Capitol.
The man was arrested on charges of “possession of a dangerous weapon.” Investigators are working to determine his identity and the motives behind his actions.
Journalists were unable to speak with him, but the detainee’s brother told the Los Angeles Times that the guillotine was a “symbol of disapproval” and that his brother was disappointed with Democrats, Republicans, the president, and the governor of California alike.
The U.S. Congress is currently in recess until early September.
In July, a man carrying a firearm was detained near the Capitol.
