At least 25 migrants missing near Greece’s Gavdos Island

A boat carrying migrants partially sank south of the Greek island of Gavdos, with at least 25 people considered missing. According to the Jerusalem Post, the Greek coast guard said that 51 foreign nationals were rescued from the vessel, while another person was found unconscious.

Search near Gavdos

According to the rescued people, there were 77 people aboard the boat. The search for approximately 25 missing people was continuing.

Four vessels that were nearby, as well as two vessels of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency Frontex, took part in the rescue operation. Another Greek coast guard vessel, a Frontex ship and a helicopter were also heading to the scene.

Ferry accident near Vanuatu

On the same day, the office of Vanuatu Prime Minister Jotham Napat reported that the MV Matui ferry sank off the coast of the Pacific country. At least one person died, while more than 30 are considered missing.

Dozens of passengers and crew members were aboard the ferry. According to the prime minister’s office, 15 people were found alive, and the search-and-rescue operation was continuing.
