Most migrants from Ceuta have returned to Morocco, according to Reuters
Spanish authorities reported that the situation following the mass influx of migrants into the enclave of Ceuta has been brought under control. According to official data, most of the people who crossed the border illegally have already voluntarily returned to Morocco.
According to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, as of Thursday morning, approximately 50,000 migrants had illegally crossed the border with Morocco.
As of the evening of July 31, approximately 48,300 people had already returned to Morocco.
At the same time, a representative of the Spanish government in Ceuta reported that the bodies of 57 people who had died were found on the Spanish side of the border. According to him, there may also be victims on Moroccan territory.
According to preliminary information, some of the migrants drowned while attempting to reach Ceuta by sea, while others died in a stampede near a breakwater equipped with a border fence.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who visited Ceuta, called the mass border breach “a violation of Spain’s territorial sovereignty.”
He also emphasized that Spanish authorities, in cooperation with Morocco, are expediting the process of returning people who entered the country illegally.

Local media are reporting on the unauthorized occupation of vacant housing, thefts, clashes, and heightened security measures, while EU countries are already responding to the situation.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk believes that Spain should follow Warsaw’s example in responding to the migration crisis. According to him, the future of the Schengen Area depends on the effective protection of its external borders.
