Britain will provide Ukraine with classified data for the production of SCALP missiles
During his first visit to Kyiv, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced his readiness to grant Ukraine access to classified information related to the British components of SCALP missiles.
The defense contractor MBDA was authorized to disclose the relevant data, which should help Ukraine prepare to launch its own missile assembly lines.
The SCALP is the French version of the British Storm Shadow. Both systems utilize joint French and British technologies.
Officials in London stated that the transfer of information will allow France and Ukraine to proceed directly to missile production. The decision also complements the British “Brakestop” program, aimed at rapidly developing low-cost, long-range strike capabilities for Ukraine.
Burnam arrived in Kyiv for the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. During his visit, he is also set to co-chair his first meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing.”
“The Ukrainian people should have no doubt: the United Kingdom stands with you today and for as long as it takes,” the British prime minister stated.
Earlier, London also announced that it had provided Kyiv with information on the new Stone Cloak electronic warfare system. According to the British government, these compact military jammers can be mounted on drones to disrupt Russian air defense systems.
Britain remains one of Ukraine’s largest partners since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. The total amount of support stands at approximately £25 billion, of which £16 billion is military aid.
The country was also the first to supply Ukraine with long-range weapons for defensive purposes in 2023.
