Britain has responded to Trump's statement about the U.S. withdrawing from NATO
The UK has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the country’s possible withdrawal from NATO. Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized his commitment to the Alliance and assured that he would not allow the country to be drawn into war.
He made these remarks during a briefing at Downing Street, Sky News reports.
“NATO is the most effective military alliance the world has ever seen. It has kept us safe for many decades, and we are fully committed to NATO,” the prime minister said.
Starmer was responding to journalists’ questions regarding Trump’s interview with the British publication The Telegraph, in which the U.S. president stated that he is seriously considering the possibility of the U.S. withdrawing from the Alliance.
The prime minister also emphasized that, regardless of external pressure, he would put Britain’s national interests first.
U.S. President Donald Trump is seriously considering the possibility of the United States withdrawing from NATO. According to him, this is because the Alliance did not join the U.S. operation against Iran.
As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the active phase of the military campaign against Iran, known as Operation “Epic Fury,” is coming to an end.
Recall that Trump stated that Iran had offered him the position of supreme leader.
Prior to this, U.S. President Donald Trump sharply criticized NATO member countries, accusing them of failing to support Washington in its confrontation with Tehran.
