A Russian drone strayed into Romanian airspace during the attack on Ukraine
During Russia’s nighttime attack on Ukraine on April 17, a Russian drone once again strayed into Romanian territory.
This was reported by the country’s Ministry of Defense.
According to the ministry, the National Military Command Center informed the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the need to alert the population in the northern part of Tulcea County.
Romanian air defense systems detected two aerial targets in the border area. One of them crossed the state border and entered the country’s airspace, but radar contact with it was lost 16 kilometers southeast of the commune of Kiliya-Veche—over a sparsely populated area.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense stated that it is preparing a team to investigate the area where the drone may have crashed and is coordinating actions with allies.
“We strongly condemn the actions of the Russian Federation, which threaten regional security and constitute a serious violation of international law,” the ministry noted.
Bucharest also emphasized that it is ready to take all necessary measures to protect the country’s territory and population.
As a reminder, on the night of Thursday, March 26, a Russian drone crashed in Romania after being shot down by Ukrainian air defenses.
