Former England forward Carroll reveals sexual assault — MyJoyOnline

In Ghana, former England forward Andy Carroll said that he was sexually assaulted by a man in 2021. The footballer disclosed the details in his autobiography, Owning It. As a victim in a sexual assault case, he was automatically granted anonymity, but Carroll decided to speak publicly about what he experienced. According to MyJoyOnline, he made this decision after speaking with his girlfriend, Lou Teasdale.

Incident at Carroll's home

The incident occurred at Carroll's home during his second spell with his boyhood club Newcastle. An acquaintance of his former partner, who was absent at the time, came to the footballer's home to watch a boxing match and was to stay overnight.

According to Carroll, the assault took place while he was asleep. He threw the man out of the house, and when he tried to return, knocked him unconscious. The footballer then called the police. Carroll also said that he cried while his children's nanny held him in her arms.

Attacker's sentence

The attacker's name has not been disclosed. He was found guilty of sexual offences, imprisoned for three years and placed on the sex offenders register. Carroll gave evidence in court and described the experience as humiliating, uncomfortable and extremely difficult.

According to the footballer, the trauma affected every area of his life and made it difficult for him to concentrate, including on football. Carroll made nine appearances for the England national team and also played in the Premier League for Liverpool and West Ham. He is now a player and co-owner of Dagenham & Redbridge.
