Former French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has announced his candidacy for the presidential election

Former French Prime Minister and leader of the "Renaissance" party, Gabriel Attal, has announced his intention to run in the 2027 presidential election.

This was reported by France24.

The politician announced his decision during a meeting with residents of the village of Mure-de-Barrez.

The presidential election in France is scheduled for spring 2027 and will mark the end of Emmanuel Macron’s nearly decade-long presidency; he cannot run for a third term due to constitutional limits.

Attal, who led the French government in 2024, is currently the secretary-general of the “Renaissance” party, founded by Macron. Despite their political closeness, conflicts arose between them following the dissolution of the National Assembly.

Announcing his candidacy, Attal stated that he decided to run out of love for France and the French people.
