Former South Korean President Receives New Sentence
A court in South Korea found former President Yoon Seok-yol guilty of spreading false information during the 2022 presidential election campaign and handed down a suspended sentence.
According to the investigation, the politician concealed the circumstances of his acquaintance with shaman Jeong Seong-be and denied meeting with him along with his wife. He also made false statements regarding events that occurred while he was serving as attorney general. The defense has already filed an appeal.
This is one of several criminal cases against the former president. He was previously sentenced to life in prison in a case involving an attempt to impose martial law.

Prior to this, South Korean prosecutors brought additional charges against former President Yoon Suk-yeol. He is suspected of abuse of power and aiding a hostile state, specifically North Korea.
As a reminder, on December 14, the South Korean parliament voted to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol following his attempt on December 3 to impose martial law in the country, allegedly due to the opposition’s ties to North Korea. In total, the martial law declared by President Yoon lasted several hours.
In South Korea, the National Anti-Corruption Agency suspended an attempt to detain President Yoon Suk-yeol, who was impeached over his failed attempt to impose martial law.
