The European Parliament will consider the trade agreement with the United States after amendments have been made

A European Parliament committee is expected to review and vote this week on the ratification of a trade agreement with the United States, a process that has previously been suspended twice due to Washington’s policies.

This is reported by Reuters.

Two EU officials said that on Tuesday, a group of lawmakers will consider resuming the ratification process. This will pave the way for a vote by the trade committee on Thursday, which is a necessary step for the agreement’s approval.

Lawmakers have introduced another amendment to the agreement—a “review clause.” Under this provision, the reduction of EU import duties will depend on the United States fulfilling its obligations. It is this change, according to sources, that convinced lawmakers to allow the vote to proceed.

The European Parliament’s Trade Committee suspended the vote on the agreement in January in protest against U.S. President Donald Trump’s demands to hand over control of Greenland to him.

Earlier reports indicated that the European Union plans to suspend ratification of the trade agreement with the U.S. concluded last summer.

Recall that Greenland could become a turning point in US-European relations.

The White House has also called Greenland’s affiliation with Denmark “unfair.”
