FBI adds India-born man to most wanted fraudsters list

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has added India-born Manjit Singh Bedi to its list of most wanted fraudsters. He is suspected of possible violations linked to a US government social assistance program. The Hindu International reports, citing the FBI.

Alleged benefits scheme

According to the FBI, Bedi ran a small grocery store in Tacoma, Washington. The agency said he swiped customers’ government benefits cards and gave them cash instead of food products.

The case concerns the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides assistance for purchasing food. The FBI links Bedi to possible violations within this program.

Reward for information

The FBI announced a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Manjit Singh Bedi. The reward is offered for information that will help law enforcement establish his whereabouts and secure a conviction.
