The documentary film “Melania,” which chronicles 20 days in the life of the First Lady of the United States before Donald Trump’s return to the White House, failed to achieve the expected box office success. At the same time, despite poor box office receipts and criticism from Democrats directed at the production company, the project itself brought Melania Trump significant financial gain.
The film “Melania” was poorly received by moviegoers, resulting in weak box office receipts. However, Melania Trump earned millions from the premiere.
According to U.S. President Donald Trump’s annual financial disclosure form, which was released by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, the First Lady reported $10.71 million in income from the project. In addition, Melania Trump earned over $520,000 from sales of her memoir, *Melania*, as well as another $6.01 million from the sale of NFTs and collectible digital items. Her total income from these projects exceeded $17.2 million.
Incidentally, Amazon MGM Studios, which produced the film, invested approximately $35 million in its promotion and about $40 million to acquire the film. Meanwhile, the film grossed approximately $16.6 million at the global box office.
Political controversy erupted following the premiere of the documentary “Melania.” Representatives of the Democratic Party criticized Amazon, suggesting that the acquisition of the film’s rights might have been an attempt to improve relations with the Donald Trump administration.
In particular, Senator Elizabeth Warren called the $40 million deal “a bribe that’s plain as day.” Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, however, rejected these accusations, emphasizing that the purchase of the film was a standard business decision.
