UK Foreign Secretary Miliband defends sanctions on West Bank settlements
UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said that the sanctions against settlements in the West Bank, announced by London on Tuesday, were the right decision. His comment came after Israel announced the closure of the British consulate in East Jerusalem.
Miliband’s statement
As The Jerusalem Post reports, Miliband said in an interview with Sky News on Wednesday that he regretted the decision announced by the Israeli government. At the same time, he said he was proud of the British side’s actions and considered the imposition of sanctions to be the right step.
Miliband stressed that he regretted what the Israeli government had announced, but was convinced of the correctness of the decision made by the British side the day before.

Israel’s announcement
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced on Tuesday that the British consulate in East Jerusalem would be closed. British representatives are also to be expelled from the Civil-Military Coordination Center in Kiryat Gat.
