Poland's Foreign Minister Warned of a Possible Provocation by Russia Against NATO

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that Russia is unlikely to be capable of launching a full-scale invasion of Poland, but may resort to a limited military provocation. According to him, the Kremlin may attempt to test NATO’s resolve and readiness for a collective response in this way.

Commenting on reports of a possible Russian strike in the coming months, the minister confirmed that Warsaw is aware of preparations for a specific provocation. He said that Polish authorities are deliberately revealing these intentions in advance to force the Kremlin to abandon its aggressive plans. Poland takes these threats extremely seriously, as Russia has invaded its territory many times over the past five hundred years.

In addition to direct military threats, Moscow has been waging a large-scale hybrid war against Western countries for over a decade. Every year, Russia spends over a billion euros on propaganda, cyberattacks, sabotage, and outright interference in the internal affairs of other states. The aggressor actively uses popular social media platforms to spread hatred, racism, and social polarization.

Radosław Sikorski expressed absolute confidence that Vladimir Putin will not be able to win the war against Ukraine. The Russian army has proven incapable of capturing even the Donbas after nearly thirteen years of constant attempts. Kyiv, on the other hand, has not only avoided occupation but has also stabilized the front and built a powerful, world-class drone manufacturing industry.

Against this backdrop, Europe has demonstrated a unity that came as a surprise to Moscow, imposing dozens of rounds of sanctions and providing Ukrainians with massive amounts of aid. Although European countries lost the first two years to rebuilding their defense industries, this process has now finally gained momentum. The continent’s main goal is to become significantly less dependent on the United States in the military sphere by 2030.

The minister emphasized that modern Poland no longer feels a panic-stricken fear of the Russian threat. Today, the country has a robust economy worth one trillion dollars and is experiencing some of the highest growth rates on the continent. In the event of a hypothetical attack, the Polish army is ready to mount a fierce resistance against the aggressor and force it to retreat, even on its own.

However, the country is not facing these challenges alone, as it has reliable and powerful allies in its NATO partners. Responding to a question about relations with Italy, the politician praised Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s role in defending the rule of law. He called her a “good European” who firmly upholds the key principle of the inviolability of national borders.

As a reminder, the U.S. will provide Poland with a $2 billion loan to purchase weapons: F-35 fighter jets, Patriot air defense missile systems, and Abrams tanks.

Earlier, Poland signed an agreement with the U.S. for the delivery of 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters, along with a logistics and training package, for a total of $10 billion.
