The Secretary of Defense has dismissed U.S. Army Chief of Staff Randy George

Pentagon Chief Pete Hagset has asked U.S. Army Chief of Staff General Randy George to resign. George has already stepped down from his post.

This was reported by CBS News.

According to sources, Hagset wants to see someone at the helm of the Army who will implement the vision of U.S. President Donald Trump and the Pentagon chief himself.

Pentagon Press Secretary Sean Parnell announced that George “is immediately stepping down as the 41st Army Chief of Staff.” He also thanked the general for his decades of service and wished him well in retirement.

Lieutenant General Christopher Lane will serve as acting chief of staff. He previously served as Hegset’s military aide and commanded the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division from 2022 to 2023.

Randy George has served as Chief of Staff since August 2023; he was appointed by former U.S. President Joe Biden and was set to remain in the position until 2027. George is currently 61 years old. He served as senior military aide to U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin from 2021 to 2022 and participated in the Gulf War, as well as in conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Earlier, the U.S. Department of Defense initiated the reallocation of budget funds for the urgent procurement of critical ammunition for the Patriot, THAAD, and Standard Missile systems.

The Pentagon also declined to release the traditional “Global Posture Review,” which for decades served as a key tool for budget planning and the assessment of U.S. military policy. Instead, the administration plans to hold only informal consultations with allies and Congress.
