Graham leads Andrews by one point in South Carolina Senate race — The Hill

In the United States, Republican Senator Darlene Graham leads Democrat Annie Andrews by one percentage point in the race for South Carolina’s Senate seat. The results of a poll of likely voters in the state were published by the Trafalgar Group, The Hill reports.

The Trafalgar Group survey was conducted on September 23–25 among 1,087 likely South Carolina voters. The margin of error is approximately 2.9 percentage points, so the recorded one-point difference is smaller than it.

About 8% of respondents remain undecided, while approximately 6% said they support another candidate. Another InsiderAdvantage poll, released earlier in September, showed Graham with a two-point lead. At the same time, an August Impact Research survey commissioned by Andrews’ campaign found the candidates tied.

Campaign developments

Graham is running for a six-year term in the upper chamber of Congress after South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed her to the seat vacated following the death of her brother, Senator Lindsey Graham. In the Republican primary, she defeated Congressman Ralph Norman in a runoff. President Donald Trump endorsed Graham and traveled to South Carolina to campaign for her before the vote.

Andrews is a pediatrician and the Democratic Party candidate. She criticized Graham for supporting Trump and his administration’s policies, including for voting against a war powers resolution related to Iran. Andrews presents herself as a moderate candidate and seeks to win South Carolina’s Senate seat for Democrats for the first time in more than 20 years.
