Iranian official says Mojtaba Khamenei was injured in Tehran — Jerusalem Post

Ayatollah Mohsen Heydari Alekassir said that Mojtaba Khamenei was pulled from the rubble of a hospital in Tehran, Iran, on February 28. According to him, Khamenei was injured before the start of the war between Israel, the United States and Iran. The Jerusalem Post reported this, citing Heydari’s interview with the Qatari media outlet Al Araby.

Mojtaba Khamenei’s condition

Heydari did not specify Mojtaba Khamenei’s exact condition or the nature of his injuries. He also explained the absence of Khamenei’s public appearances and his meetings with Iran’s Assembly of Experts by the danger that, according to him, threatens both Khamenei himself and members of this body.

According to the ayatollah, large gatherings are not held as long as communication or individual meetings can be arranged secretly. Heydari called Mojtaba Khamenei a “shadow man” and an adviser who was sometimes consulted on matters for which his father lacked time.

Statement on succession

Heydari also denied claims that former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had recommended his son as a successor. According to his version, Mojtaba Khamenei’s election was not connected to his father’s position. The ayatollah added that during Ali Khamenei’s rule, Mojtaba held no defined official political position.
