Kaczyński announced the resignation of 30 members of the Polish Law and Justice (PiS) party
On July 24, Jarosław Kaczyński, president of the Polish opposition party “Law and Justice,” announced the resignation of 30 members of the party. According to “European Truth,” this is a large group of top party officials aligned with former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
The conflict between Morawiecki and Kaczyński intensified after the PiS leadership nominated Przemysław Czarnek as the party’s candidate for prime minister instead of the former prime minister. Formally, the decision was made collectively, but the publication notes that Czarnecki was supported by Kaczyński, who wields decisive influence over key decisions within the party.
Mateusz Morawiecki established the “Rozwój Plus” association within PiS, which presented a program for Poland’s economic development ahead of the party convention. The former prime minister’s team refused to comply with Kaczyński’s ultimatum regarding the inadmissibility of participating in political associations that operate in parallel with party structures.

Przemysław Czarnek blamed Morawiecki for the split. According to an IBRIS poll, if Morawiecki’s party—which currently exists only virtually—were to run independently in the Sejm elections, it could secure 6.9% of the vote and clear the 5% electoral threshold.
The ruling coalition led by Donald Tusk reacted positively to the news. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski joked, “I love the PiS party so much that I wish there were at least two of them.”
“European Truth” notes that, along with Morawiecki, politicians whom the publication describes as the most pro-Ukrainian have left PiS. According to the authors of the article, Morawiecki will be forced to defend his governments’ policies, particularly regarding support for Kyiv.
