Callas called on Europe not to fear Russia and to step up its support for Ukraine
Europe must not give in to Russia’s intimidation but must instead strengthen its support for Ukraine. This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas ahead of the European Arctic Summit in Finland.
According to Kallas, Russia’s actions were aimed at intimidating Western countries and forcing them to withdraw their support for Ukraine.
“This was clearly intended to intimidate Western countries so that they would not support Ukraine or travel to Ukraine to express their support. This was clearly a message to the Western world,” Kallas emphasized.
The EU High Representative noted that the key question is what conclusion Europe will draw from this signal from Russia.
“I think we must do the opposite,” she stressed.
According to Kallas, Europe must demonstrate its support for Ukraine and not allow Russia to intimidate Western nations.
“We must show that we are here for Ukraine and that we are not afraid,” the EU representative stated.
Kallas also warned that failing to support Ukraine could help Russia achieve its goal—to subjugate Ukraine.
“And, as I’ve said several times, that is not their ultimate goal. Their ultimate goal is much broader, so we must stand firm,” Kallas concluded.

Earlier, the European Commission approved a new aid package for Ukraine worth 6.1 billion euros. In particular, the funds will be used to purchase PAC-3 interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems.
Ukraine is signing contracts for approximately 1,000 Patriot missiles.

With the support of its allies and using a loan from the European Union, Ukraine is signing contracts to supply approximately 1,000 missiles for the U.S. Patriot air defense systems. Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara made this statement at a meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues for Ukraine.
The United Kingdom is allocating 100 million pounds to the PURL program to provide Ukraine with missiles for the Patriot systems and other air defense equipment as early as this winter.
