Hackers used Norway's infrastructure to launch cyberattacks against Ukraine
The Norwegian Foreign Intelligence Service (E-tjenesten) has uncovered the use of the country’s digital infrastructure by a foreign hacking group to carry out cyberattacks against Ukrainian government agencies.
The attackers used Norway’s advanced network as a transit point to conceal their digital footprints and make it more difficult to identify the source of the attack. The intelligence agency did not name a specific country involved in the cyber operations, but emphasized that such attacks pose risks of classified information leaks, espionage, and potential sabotage of government systems.
In addition, Norwegian intelligence documented an ongoing cyberattack on a local company in the critical infrastructure sector, during which hackers covertly maintained access to administrative systems.
Intelligence officials reported this to the Norwegian publication VG.
The Norwegian Parliament’s website was the target of a DDoS attack. A Russian hacker group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The pro-Russian group Server Killers carried out a series of cyberattacks against Norway’s public sector. As a result of the attack, dozens of the country’s government services were down for three days, and information about the national budget was leaked.
