Hezbollah promises rental assistance for displaced families — Asharq Al-Awsat
In Lebanon, Hezbollah announced its intention to help pay for housing for families who lost their homes during the war. The group’s Secretary-General Naim Qassem also said it plans to provide accommodation, repairs and reconstruction using Hezbollah’s resources and donations, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.
The terms of assistance have not yet been announced
The group has not yet disclosed details of the initiative. Residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs interviewed by the publication believe that it concerns only partial coverage of rent rather than compensation for the full amount. They said they are awaiting clarification on the nature and scope of the support.
Researcher Mohammad Shamseddine estimated that about 35,000 families currently need housing assistance. He noted that after the war in March 2026, monthly payments amounted to up to $400 for households in Beirut and $300 in the south of the country. According to him, no final decision has yet been made on the amount, the procedure for distributing the funds, or the duration of the payments.

Discontent among supporters
The initiative was announced amid delays in previously promised housing payments, which, according to the publication, intensified discontent among Hezbollah supporters, particularly among displaced people from border areas. Qassem linked the group’s financial difficulties to restrictions on transferring funds from Iran to Lebanon.
After the first phase of hostilities in 2024, Hezbollah paid up to $10,000 per property for minor repairs and, according to the publication’s estimate, spent about $300 million on this. The group also allocated $800 million in housing assistance for people whose homes were completely destroyed; it covered furniture and one year of rent. In 2025, Qassem said that 50,755 people had received housing payments and repairs had been carried out in the homes of 332,000 people.
