Cyprus to tighten security ahead of Israeli President Herzog’s visit
Cyprus police will step up security measures in Larnaca and Nicosia on Thursday in connection with a one-day visit by Israeli President Isaac Herzog. Restrictions will be in force from 09:00 to 16:00, Cyprus Mail reports.
Temporary road closures
Law enforcement officers will close traffic for several minutes in the Larnaca area, on the motorway between Larnaca and Nicosia, as well as in Nicosia. Drivers and the public were urged to follow the instructions of police officers stationed along the routes where restrictions will be in place.
Herzog will arrive in Cyprus at the invitation of President Nikos Christodoulides. The heads of state are expected to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments. Israel’s Presidential Office said the talks would focus on deepening cooperation and strengthening ties between Israel and Cyprus, followed by a meeting of the delegations.

Protest in Nicosia
A protest organised by the Cyprus Peace Council and other anti-war groups is scheduled for the evening near the presidential palace in Nicosia. It is set to begin at 18:30, after the official programme of the visit has ended.
The organisers called Herzog’s arrival “a huge provocation,” citing Israel’s military operations in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as its actions in Lebanon, Syria and Iran. They urged the public to join the protest and, in their words, send a clear signal that Herzog is not welcome in Cyprus.
