Former primary challenger to Senator Marshall backs Democrat — The Hill

In the US state of Kansas, Arch Naramore, who previously competed against Republican Senator Roger Marshall in the primary, endorsed his Democratic Party opponent Adam Hamilton. The Hill reports.

Naramore said in a YouTube video that he has always been a Republican but endorsed Hamilton in the US Senate election set to take place in November. In August, Marshall comfortably defeated Naramore in the Republican primary, though his challenger received more than 20% of the vote.

Criticism of Marshall

Naramore said many Republicans shared his view that Marshall, who is serving his first Senate term, needed to be challenged. According to Naramore, Marshall supported tariffs that harmed Kansas farmers and also voted for multibillion-dollar tax breaks for data centers.

The Hill requested comment from a representative of Marshall's campaign. Naramore, who has not previously held elected office, called Hamilton a non-politician and said he would fight for the interests of Republicans, Democrats and independent voters.

The Democrat's chances

Adam Hamilton is the senior pastor of the Church of the Resurrection. He is seeking to become the first Democrat to win a Senate election in Kansas since former Senator George McGill in 1932.

As of Wednesday, The Hill's polling partner Decision Desk HQ estimated Hamilton's chances of winning at 23%. The Cook Political Report classified the race as leaning toward Marshall, although on Wednesday it shifted its assessment of the contest toward Democrats. Last week, Hamilton was also endorsed by former Republican Kansas Governor Bill Graves, who said it was time for the state's voters to do something different.
