SCO coordinators to meet in Islamabad on September 28–30 — Dawn

The first meeting of the Council of National Coordinators of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation under Pakistan’s chairmanship will be held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on September 28–30. As Dawn reports, national coordinators of SCO member states and representatives of the organisation’s secretariat will take part.

Meeting agenda

The meeting will be chaired by Pakistan’s SCO national coordinator. Participants will discuss the programme of events during the country’s chairmanship, preparations for upcoming SCO meetings and events, as well as other issues of cooperation and coordination within the organisation.

Pakistan chairs the SCO Council of Heads of State in 2026–2027. The theme of its chairmanship has been set as “Transforming Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity.” Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the country would focus on strengthening connectivity, supporting innovation, expanding economic cooperation and people-to-people contacts.

Preparations for the 2027 summit

The coordinators’ meeting is expected to become the initial stage of preparations for a series of high-level events, including the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting, which Pakistan will host in August 2027. Pakistan assumed the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State during the annual summit in Kyrgyzstan in September.

During the summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif proposed a plan of priorities that included information technology and artificial intelligence, energy development, poverty reduction, disaster response, healthcare, culture and sports. Pakistan’s Capital Development Authority invited bids to modernise the Jinnah Convention Centre and construct a new block ahead of the summit. In August, the agency also worked to secure 4,000 high-end hotel rooms in Islamabad.
