Labour members are discussing replacing Starmer with Bernam

Within the British Labour Party, talk is intensifying about a possible leadership change and the potential resignation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham is being cited as the leading contender to replace him.

The internal party tensions stem from a poor showing in local elections, a drop in the government’s approval ratings, and mounting criticism of the prime minister

The situation was further exacerbated by Burnham’s decisive victory in the by-election in Makerfield, after which he began to be actively considered as a potential successor.

According to The Guardian, Andy Burnham already enjoys significant support among Labour MPs and is increasingly calling for a renewal of the party’s political course. Following his by-election victory, he emphasized the need to offer the country a new vision for development.

At the same time, there is no official decision within the Labour Party to change its leader. Government officials state that Keir Starmer continues to carry out his duties and will determine his next steps himself.

The prime minister himself has also publicly denied reports of a possible resignation and stated his readiness to participate in internal party elections and fight to retain his leadership.

Meanwhile, British media note that discussions about the future leadership of the Labour Party are ongoing and may intensify amid internal political competition.

This is reported by The Guardian.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will officially announce his resignation as head of government on the morning of Monday, June 22, and will release a clear timeline for the upcoming reshuffle of the current cabinet.

The British Foreign Secretary has called on Starmer to resign, according to Sky News.
