Lithuania is preparing a diplomatic note to Belarus regarding the drone incident
Lithuania plans to send a diplomatic note to Belarus following an incident involving a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace on the night of September 15 and was shot down by NATO fighter jets.
This was stated by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys. According to him, Vilnius is also consulting with its allies regarding the situation.
The Lithuanian foreign minister noted that after receiving a report from the Air Force and establishing the exact coordinates and circumstances of the airspace violation, the country is preparing a note to the state from which the aircraft originated. In this case, that state is Belarus.
At the same time, Budrys emphasized that the final next steps will depend on the results of the investigation. The drone’s origin is to be determined based on its wreckage.
The minister thanked the Italian pilots participating in the NATO patrol and air defense mission for shooting down the drone. He also stated that such incidents occur against the backdrop of intense combat operations.

Lithuania will begin construction of a new military camp at the Rudninkai training ground, approximately 16 km from the border with Belarus. The facility is designed to accommodate more than 1,000 military personnel and will become part of the infrastructure for German troops and other NATO units. Approximately €40 million is planned to be spent on construction, with work scheduled for completion in the first half of 2028.
