Lithuania plans to strengthen its border with Belarus and Russia — LRT
Lithuania is preparing to establish an additional counter-mobility zone to strengthen border security with Belarus and the Kaliningrad Oblast of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by LRT.
According to the government’s plan, the engineering zone will extend 150–200 meters inland from the border patrol line.
To implement the project, authorities will need access to private land, which may require changes to legislation. The work is scheduled to be completed by 2029.
The Ministry of Defense also proposes restoring drainage ditches in border areas to make the terrain difficult for vehicles to traverse.
In addition, by 2030, there are plans to install additional engineering obstacles on roads and bridges, including structures for potential mining.
Lithuania explained why the war in Ukraine is depleting Russia’s resources.
Lithuania has purchased protective equipment against chemical and nuclear threats worth over €300,000.
