Mágyar refuted Zelenskyy's statement that Hungary had joined the Carpathian Eight
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that his country did not join the “Carpathian Eight” regional format initiated by Ukraine.
Speaking in parliament, Magyar noted that Budapest had received an invitation but, for valid reasons, had decided not to participate in the initiative. However, the Hungarian prime minister did not disclose the specific reasons behind this decision.
On September 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the establishment of a new cooperation format to strengthen ties in the region. The initiative envisages bringing together Ukraine and seven European countries (Romania, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Hungary), as well as the EU as a whole. However, at the final summit, Hungary was represented only by the deputy Hungarian ambassador in Kyiv, which amounts to a diplomatic snub.

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar also stated that his government would not allow the construction of oil storage facilities on Hungarian territory intended to meet Ukraine’s needs.
Hungary pushed to remove from the final declaration of the European Union summit any wording regarding Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the EU.
