A Moroccan soccer player died while trying to swim to Ceuta, Spain
Faten Ben Amar El-Azizi, a 20-year-old Moroccan soccer player, died while attempting to swim illegally to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
According to Moroccan media reports, the athlete set out on the dangerous journey near the city of Fnideq but was caught in strong currents and a storm, preventing her from reaching the shore.
Faten Ben Amar El-Azizi played for the club “Maghreb Atlético Tétouan” and had previously played for “Maroc Athletic Tanger.” The club expressed its condolences to the soccer player’s family and noted that she had been striving to build a better future for herself.

This followed the decision by Giorgia Meloni’s government to temporarily reinstate border controls amid the migration crisis in Ceuta, Spain. The checks are being conducted at airports and seaports, including Rome’s Fiumicino.
On Saturday, Spain began installing a 500-meter-long inflatable floating barrier near the border with Morocco in the Ceuta area. This decision was made following a sharp increase in the number of migrants attempting to enter the Spanish enclave.
