Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire has announced his intention to visit Kyiv
The newly elected mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, plans to pay an official visit to Kyiv as soon as the opportunity arises, and is also calling on the leaders of other European cities to actively visit the Ukrainian capital as a sign of solidarity.
He made this statement during a press conference following the Urban7 international mayors’ summit, which took place in the French city of Nancy.
Emmanuel Grégoire emphasized that the partnership between the capitals of France and Ukraine has a long history and a strong practical foundation. His predecessor as mayor, Anne Hidalgo, visited Kyiv on multiple occasions during the full-scale war to coordinate aid. Paris continues to provide comprehensive support to Ukraine in several critical areas:
Stabilization and restoration of the power supply system.
Ensuring food security and food supply.
Rebuilding destroyed civilian infrastructure, particularly strategic medical facilities and hospitals.
Providing specialized expert assistance on urban planning and municipal management in crisis conditions.
The Mayor of Paris clarified that he cannot currently specify the exact date of his upcoming trip to Kyiv. This is due to his campaign promise to focus entirely on the domestic issues of Parisians during the first year of his term following his victory in the municipal elections in the spring of 2026. At the same time, he assured that this visit is a top priority of his international activities. According to Grégoire, European mayors must constantly demonstrate to Ukrainians that they are not left alone to face the aggressor, and that every day of joint work brings a just peace closer.
This year’s Urban7 summit in Nancy took place within the framework of France’s official presidency of the Group of Seven (G7). Following the summit, participants adopted a final joint declaration. In the document, leaders of European and global cities officially recognized the status of Ukrainian municipalities as strategic and key partners of the G7. The phenomenal resilience of Ukrainian communities was specifically noted, along with their role in the development of cross-border urban diplomacy, the protection of democratic values, post-war reconstruction, and joint efforts to counter large-scale disinformation campaigns.
