The International Cycling Union has lifted sanctions against Belarus
The International Cycling Union (UCI) announced the lifting of all restrictions on Belarusian athletes that had been imposed on February 28, 2022. The organization has also eased certain restrictions on Russian athletes. The decision was made in light of recommendations from the International Olympic Committee, which in May called for the restoration of Belarusian athletes’ rights to compete under their national flag and anthem.
The UCI also announced that Belarusian cyclists may now participate in all international competitions, including World Cups and World Championships, while using national symbols.
At the same time, participation rules for athletes with Russian citizenship have been relaxed: they no longer need to obtain the status of an individual neutral athlete (AIN) to compete at the international level, and they are also permitted to participate in team disciplines. Only the display of Russian state symbols remains prohibited.
The EU has extended sanctions against Belarus until February 2027.
