Cyprus sets fares for school bus travel

Cyprus’ Ministry of Transport has set the fare for schoolchildren travelling on school buses at €5 per month or €30 for the entire school year. Children from large families with five or more members, as well as children of guaranteed minimum income recipients, will be able to travel to school free of charge, Cyprus Mail reports.

Motion card for travel

To board a school bus, pupils must obtain a personalised Motion card. To receive it, they must present a certificate of enrolment or a student ID for the current school year.

According to the ministry, these measures are intended to make pupils’ daily journeys easier and encourage more schoolchildren to use public transport.

Free travel during the first week

During the first week of the school year, until 11 September, all school buses will operate free of charge. This period was provided for obtaining personalised Motion cards.

From 14 September, children without a valid Motion card will not be allowed on school buses.
