The incumbent prime minister's party won the election in Kosovo — DW

"Self-Determination," the political party led by Kosovo's incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti, has won the recent early parliamentary elections.

Despite leading in the polls, the party lost a significant portion of its support compared to the previous election.

Current vote counts indicate that the nationalist party will not be able to form a majority on its own in the new legislature.

According to official data after ballots were processed from nearly all polling stations across the country, the “Self-Determination” party received about 43% of the vote.

This figure is significantly lower than the previous election result for Albin Kurti’s political party. Specifically, during the previous election in December, the ruling party managed to mobilize 51% of the electorate.

Opposition political groups showed stable results and secured their positions on the electoral lists. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) took second place in the popularity rankings, garnering 21% of the vote.

In turn, the “Democratic League of Kosovo” (DLK) finished third with 17% support.

These parliamentary elections marked the third snap election held in the Balkan region over the past 18 months.

The latest snap election was called due to a prolonged institutional crisis and the inability to agree on a candidate for head of state.

Kosovo’s leading political forces were unable to elect a new president for the region within the timeframe established by law.

This was reported by DW.
