OpenAI discusses raising funds at a $1.2 trillion valuation — FT
In Singapore, OpenAI held talks with major investors about a new capital raise that could potentially value the developer of ChatGPT at about $1.2 trillion before the company goes public. Channel NewsAsia reports, citing the Financial Times and sources familiar with the course of the talks.
Talks at an early stage
According to the Financial Times, the discussions are at an early stage, so the company’s valuation may change over the coming months. The publication’s sources also said that the talks were initiated by investors rather than OpenAI itself.
The company declined to comment on the information. In March, OpenAI completed a funding round with $122 billion in committed capital. It was then valued at $852 billion.

Plans for going public
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on Saturday that the company would not go public in 2026, citing artificial intelligence safety issues. OpenAI and its competitor Anthropic advocate for stronger AI regulation due to concerns about the technology’s safety and its potential for misuse.
Earlier, Reuters reported that Anthropic could begin marketing its initial public offering no earlier than mid-October and complete its listing a few days before the U.S. midterm elections in November.
