The opposition party "Tisa" is widening its lead over "Fidesz" ahead of the Hungarian elections

The gap between the opposition party "Tisa" and "Fidesz," the party of Hungary's incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, continues to widen ahead of the parliamentary elections.

This is evidenced by the latest poll conducted by Research Center 21, according to Telex.

According to the latest poll by Research Center 21, conducted from March 23 to 28, 2026, among 1,500 respondents, the lead in favor of "Tisa" has increased to 16 percentage points among those likely to vote, and to 19 points among those who will definitely vote, with a vote share of 56% to 37%.

Among the general population, the difference stands at 12 percentage points, which could mean about 900,000 more potential voters for “Tisa” than for “Fides.”

Researchers note that three weeks ago the gap was smaller—10 percentage points among the general electorate and 14 points among those who will definitely vote. Analysts note that since January, the opposition party led by Péter Magyar has managed to attract new supporters.

As a reminder, the opposition party “Tisza,” led by Péter Magyar, has strengthened its lead in the electoral preferences of Hungarians three weeks before the parliamentary elections.

Péter Magyar, leader of the Hungarian opposition party “Tisza,” stated that if his party wins the parliamentary elections on April 12, he plans to remove key allies of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán from power, including the president and heads of the judiciary.

U.S. President Donald Trump appealed to the citizens of Hungary to support incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12, 2026.
