The Pope Responds to Trump Following His Accusations — CNN
Pope Leo XIV, the head of the Vatican, has officially responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s harsh remarks regarding the Church’s stance on the conflict in Iran.
CNN reports this.
The pontiff emphasized that despite political pressure, he will not cease to issue calls for peace and condemn military aggression.
The Holy See emphasizes its apolitical nature, noting that the Church’s mission is to preach peace, not to participate in international geopolitical games.
Leo XIV noted that his words are aimed at protecting human lives, not at discrediting individual state leaders.
“I will not engage in debates. The things I am saying are not intended as an attack against anyone. I invite all people to seek ways to build bridges to peace and reconciliation, to seek ways to avoid war whenever possible,” the pontiff stated in response to Washington’s accusations.
Despite strained relations with the U.S. administration, the Pope assured the international community that the Vatican would remain true to its principles.
He added that fear of political consequences will not silence him on issues concerning global security.
“I am not afraid of the Trump administration, and I am not afraid to loudly proclaim the message of the Gospel—which, I believe, is why I am here and why the Church exists. We are not politicians; we do not engage in foreign policy with the same perspective as he may understand it,” the head of the Catholic Church emphasized.
