Floods block Karakoram Highway in northern Pakistan — Dawn
In Pakistan, floods caused by heavy rains have blocked the Karakoram Highway and other roads in Ghizer district, damaged homes, agricultural land and power lines. This was reported by Dawn.
Damage in Ghizer
Flash floods occurred in several areas of Ghizer district in the morning after heavy rain. In the village of Naubahar, they damaged the Gushgush Jamaat Khana building and destroyed crops, fruit trees and agricultural land.
The floods also blocked the road between Immit and Barjangal and damaged power lines along the route. Due to the blockage, residents of several settlements were cut off from other areas and called on the administration to urgently restore access and provide assistance to those affected.
Road conditions in Hunza
According to a Gilgit-Baltistan police representative, the Karakoram Highway was completely closed due to landslides on the section from Sost to Khunjerab Pass. Relevant services are working to restore traffic, while tourists have been advised to refrain from non-essential travel.

Tourist police reported that traffic was restored on the section of the Karakoram Highway between Murtazaabad and Hasanabad village in the Hunza region after it had been blocked by landslides.
Changing weather conditions
Rain, thunderstorms and lightning have continued in Gilgit-Baltistan since August 1. Local residents told the publication that they do not remember such heavy precipitation before. At the same time, continuous rains have lowered temperatures in the region.
The Diamer district administration reported that the first snow of the season fell at Babusar Pass in the morning. Traffic on the Babusar Road continued.
According to the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority, 120 floods caused by cloudbursts and glacier melting were recorded in the region from June to August. They destroyed dozens of homes, agricultural land, orchards, trees, irrigation canals and roads, and also damaged electricity supply systems. Residents of some areas remained cut off for several days.
