Pentagon reports return of US bombers from Britain — The National

The Pentagon has confirmed the return to the United States of all American bombers that had been deployed at RAF Fairford air base in Gloucestershire, United Kingdom. The US military used the base as a departure point for B-1B heavy bombers during the war with Iran.

Return of aircraft to the United States

A US Department of Defense spokesperson said that the department could not confirm the movement of forces and equipment in real time for operational security reasons. At the same time, he stated that all bombers stationed at RAF Fairford had already redeployed to their bases in the United States.

According to him, the crews of US B-1, B-2 and B-52 bombers remain ready to carry out precision strikes anywhere in the world, including operations involving flights departing from and returning to the continental United States. The National reports.

Investigation near the air base

The Pentagon's statement came a week after five British men were detained near RAF Fairford. They were suspected of preparing a terrorist act and offenses involving explosives after they were spotted near the base on the morning of September 27. All five were later released on bail.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were “strong indications” of possible Iranian involvement in the incident. British police also reported the detention in central London of a sixth man — an Iranian and British citizen — as part of an investigation into an alleged plan to attack the American air base in the Cotswolds.
