Estonia's First Resident Ambassador to Azerbaijan Presents Credentials — ERR News

Estonia's first resident ambassador to Azerbaijan, Tiina Nirk, presented her credentials to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday. This was reported by ERR News, citing Estonia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Cooperation between the countries

During the meeting, Nirk and Aliyev discussed strengthening bilateral ties. Areas of cooperation included the economy, digital development, education and green energy.

They also emphasized the importance of high-level contacts. As an example, the article mentions Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna's visit to Baku in October last year.

Support for Ukraine and the new embassy

Nirk and Aliyev stated the importance of continued comprehensive support for Ukraine. The ambassador also informed the Azerbaijani president about Estonia's preparations to host the Ukraine Recovery Conference in January 2027.

“The most important task of diplomacy is to build bridges,” Nirk said. According to her, in her new position she seeks to create opportunities for cooperation between Estonia and Azerbaijan and strengthen partnership in areas of mutual interest.

Tiina Nirk has worked at Estonia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1990 and headed the consular department from 2019 to 2026. Estonia and Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations on April 2, 1992. Estonia opened an embassy in Baku on March 1 this year, while the official opening ceremony is scheduled for October 20.
