Support for Estonia’s Social Democrats rises to 18% — ERR News
Support for Estonia’s opposition Social Democratic Party (SDE) rose by four percentage points in August to 18%. At the same time, the rating of the Centre Party fell to 19%, according to Emor’s monthly poll, as reported by ERR News.
Isamaa’s lead and rating changes
Isamaa retained the highest support among parties at 26%. This is the party’s best result since January. The Centre Party’s rating has been declining for the second consecutive month: in June, it stood at 22%. In July, 14% of respondents supported the Social Democrats.
According to Emor, the increase in SDE’s popularity was primarily driven by voters under the age of 35. Among Estonian-speaking respondents, support for the Centre Party fell from 13% in June to 8% in August. The cited ratings do not include those who were undecided about their political preferences; 27% of respondents were undecided in August.

Presidential campaign
Emor expert Aivar Voog suggested that the process of electing the president may have influenced the August results. The Social Democrats were the first to clearly support the candidacy of Chancellor of Justice Ülle Madise. At the time of publication, her nomination had been supported by 74 members of the Riigikogu, while Madise herself was the most popular candidate among the public.
The Centre Party is the only political force to support Tiit Land, rector of Tallinn University of Technology. Voog also noted that the Social Democrats’ high rating had previously been unstable, whereas support for Isamaa is more resilient.
The Reform Party had 13% support in August, EKRE had 12%. The extra-parliamentary Parempoolsed maintained its 7% rating, while Eesti 200 rose from 2% to 3%. Presidential elections in the Riigikogu are scheduled for September 2–3, and Estonia’s next parliamentary elections are due to take place in March 2027.
