British police have determined that the death of former minister Anne Widdecombe was a homicide – Bloomberg
British counterterrorism police stated that former Member of Parliament and minister Anne Widdecombe was killed in a targeted attack.
The head of the counterterrorism unit, Deputy Commissioner Lawrence Taylor, noted that the murder was, to some extent, premeditated and planned, but declined to provide further details.
When asked whether the crime might have been directed against the Reform UK party, the law enforcement official replied that the police are still investigating the motives behind the crime.
Veddecomb served as a Conservative Party member of the House of Commons for nearly 30 years. After leaving Parliament, she became a Member of the European Parliament for the Brexit Party and later served as a spokesperson for the Reform UK party.
On July 10, 78-year-old Widdecombe, who previously served as Minister for Prisons in the Conservative Party government, was found dead at her home in Haytor, near Newton Abbot in Devon.
The United Kingdom plans to introduce a new requirement for some asylum seekers—reimbursement of the state’s costs for their support while their applications are being processed. This payment could become one of the conditions for obtaining the right to permanent residence in the country.
