Ghana police arrest seven in anti-drug raid — MyJoyOnline

Police in Ghana’s Asutifi North District in the Ahafo Region arrested seven people during an operation targeting suspected illegal drug activity in the district capital, Kenyasi. Officers also impounded several unregistered and unlicensed motorcycles, MyJoyOnline reports.

Operation in Kenyasi

The raid was carried out overnight into Wednesday at a location police consider a suspected hideout. Several people fled when they saw law enforcement officers.

Asutifi North District Police Commander Superintendent Harold Yamoah Ponkoh told journalists on October 1 that the operation was part of intensified night patrols. According to him, these measures are intended to increase the police presence and deter crime in the district.

Further police action

Ponkoh said the raid was part of a series of planned operations to dismantle suspected criminal hideouts. According to him, police also seek to counter drug dealers and other groups that law enforcement believes may be involved in criminal activity.

The police chief noted that the detainees were expected to be brought before court on October 1 or 2. Police continue to search for people who managed to flee and say they intend to continue conducting operations to maintain security in the district.
