Poland is preparing for the U-20 Women's World Cup despite the threat of a FIFA boycott by UEFA
Poland has stated that preparations for the Women’s Under-20 World Cup are proceeding on schedule, despite the dispute between UEFA and FIFA and the threat of a boycott by European associations. The tournament, featuring 24 national teams, is scheduled to take place in Poland from September 5 to 27.
The Polish Football Association reported that preparations have entered the final stage. It also noted that it has not received any information about any team potentially withdrawing from the tournament and is counting on a swift resolution to the situation. According to Al Jazeera English, the competition could become the first FIFA tournament to take place amid a conflict with UEFA.
France was the first to confirm its participation in the tournament. New Zealand also announced that it would send its national team to Poland, calling the competition important for the development of women’s soccer. The soccer associations of England and Canada had not commented on the situation at that time, and the U.S. Soccer Federation declined to comment, although the U.S. team is expected to participate.

The controversy arose after FIFA President Gianni Infantino proposed spinning off the commercial rights to the World Cup and selling 20% to private investors to raise approximately $4.2 billion. He later abandoned this plan. Following this, all 55 UEFA member associations unanimously supported a boycott of FIFA competitions. Last week, UEFA stated that the conditions related to non-participation in FIFA tournaments had not been met and that confidence in Infantino’s presidency had been lost.
If the dispute escalates, women’s soccer could be among the first to suffer. The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is scheduled for October in Morocco, and European national teams, including England, are set to play qualifying matches for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
