Trump's behavior at the NATO summit has once again sparked rumors of dementia
U.S. President Donald Trump’s behavior during the NATO summit in Ankara has once again sparked debate about his cognitive state. In particular, the German newspaper BILD drew attention to this after analyzing the American leader’s remarks.
According to the publication, upon arriving at the summit venue, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took Trump by the hand while inspecting the honor guard, as the U.S. president appeared unsteady on his feet.
While speaking with reporters, Trump also made several verbal slips. In particular, he referred to the “Islamic Republic of Japan” and mistakenly called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was standing nearby, “Putin,” after which he immediately turned it into a joke.
In addition, the U.S. president reiterated that the war in Ukraine would not have happened if he had been in power, and during the briefing, he repeatedly strayed from the topic and shifted to other issues.
Commenting on Trump’s behavior for BILD, New York surgeon Paul Hazer suggested that the U.S. president may be experiencing age-related changes in cognitive function. According to him, when comparing Trump’s current appearances with his speeches from several years ago, a noticeable deterioration in certain speech skills is evident.
At the same time, The New York Times suggests that certain aspects of Trump’s behavior may be linked to his use of the sleep aid Ambien, which, according to the publication, is prescribed to him during long flights.
Donald Trump himself denies having any health problems. The U.S. president refers to his speaking style—in which he jumps from one topic to another—as “The Weave.”

Trump stated that he does not consider the NATO summit in Turkey to be his last.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he is ready to visit Ukraine “at the appropriate time,” but believes it would be best to do so after the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
