UK Prime Minister Burnham criticizes Israel’s actions in Gaza — Anadolu Agency

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, United States, said that London would not stand by as suffering continues to grow in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.

Statement on Gaza and the West Bank

Burnham said that recent sanctions against illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank recognize the illegality of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory. According to him, the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel by the Palestinian group Hamas does not justify the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza and the West Bank.

The British prime minister stressed that too many people, including children, have died. He also said that the prospect of a two-state solution is the best hope for peace and stability for both peoples, and that trust in the international community will weaken if support for this solution is not accompanied by concrete action.

Artificial intelligence and Russia

Separately, Burnham said that the United Kingdom is developing a new defense partnership with the United States in the field of artificial intelligence to protect critical national infrastructure. He noted that fundamental decisions concerning this technology cannot be left to chance.

Speaking about the Russian Federation, an aggressor state, Burnham said that Britain would strengthen its own defense capabilities and deterrence, but would not engage in an exchange of escalatory rhetoric. He also accused Russian agencies of spreading far-right narratives and said there was evidence of their attempt to interfere in the 2019 British general election. According to him, the Kremlin spends about £1.3 billion annually on manipulating information.

Burnham also noted that the United Kingdom has deep ties with partners in the European Union and seeks to further deepen these relations.
